Privacy Policy

Recolorizer colorizes black-and-white photos. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to your photos and your data. The short version: we do not keep your photos, we never learn who you are, and the only company besides us that processes your photo is the AI provider that colorizes it.

No account, no login

Recolorizer has no accounts. When you first open the app it creates a random identifier (a UUID we call the appAccountToken) and stores it in your iCloud Keychain. This identifier links your purchases to your powder balance on our server. It contains nothing about you and cannot be used to identify you. You can retire it at any time with Settings → Reset my data (unspent powders are forfeited; the app shows the number before you confirm).

Your photos

• Before upload, the app removes all metadata (EXIF, GPS location, camera details) from the photo and scales it down so the long edge is at most 4096 pixels.
• On our server (a server we operate at IONOS; location: [owner to confirm]) the photo is decoded and re-encoded once more so no metadata can survive. A reduced copy (long edge at most 1600 pixels) is sent to our AI provider, DeepAI, Inc. (deepai.org), which acts as our processor and returns a colorized version. Our server then combines DeepAI's colours with your original full-resolution photo to produce the final image. • We do not store your photos. Requests pass through memory only; your photo is never written to a disk, a log, a backup or a database on our server.
• Colorized results live in the app on your device (your gallery) and, if you tap Save, in your Photos library. We keep only technical facts about each job: sizes in pixels and bytes, duration, success or failure, and which anonymous identifier it belonged to.

Purchases and powders

Purchases are handled by Apple. Apple gives our server a signed receipt that carries your anonymous identifier, and our server credits your powder balance. We store the transaction identifiers Apple provides so refunds can be applied correctly. We never see your name, email address, payment method or Apple ID.

Device integrity

To keep bots out, the app uses Apple's App Attest. Our server receives a cryptographic proof from Apple that the request comes from a genuine copy of Recolorizer on a real device. It reveals neither your identity nor your device's serial number.

Analytics

The app uses Firebase Analytics (Google) in the variant without advertising-identifier support: no IDFA is collected, no tracking prompt is shown, and we do not use the data for advertising. Events are things like "onboarding completed", "colorize succeeded" or "paywall shown", with the anonymous identifier above as the user ID, so we can understand where people get stuck. Server logs

Our server logs contain request method, path, status code, timing and error codes. Image bytes cannot be logged by construction — the code path that could log a request body only ever sees a redacted placeholder — and Apple's signed receipts are never logged in full. Logs are kept for 30 days.

Legal basis (GDPR) and retention

Processing your photo is necessary to perform the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Analytics rest on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Retention: photos — none; job and purchase records — as long as your balance exists, plus what tax and accounting law require for purchases; analytics — Firebase's default of 14 months.

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete the data linked to your anonymous identifier. Because we cannot identify you, send us the identifier (shown in Settings) via the support address below and we will act on it. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Recolorizer is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
